Alabama Beekeeping Symposium Date Set

The 23rd Annual Beekeeping Symposium will be held Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at the Clanton Conference and Performing Arts Center. Doors will open at 8 a.m.

According to a press release from Alabama A&M University and Auburn University, the Alabama Cooperative Extension System will be hosting the event.

The symposium will consist of a variety programs from industry professionals throughout the United States. Presenters will include Walter Sheppard, Washington State University’s entomology department head, and Dan O’Hanlan, a West Virginia judge and beekeeper. O’Hanlan will discuss the legal aspects of beekeeping. Alabama Extension employees will share their perspectives on beekeeping within the state.

Other aspects of the industry, such as honey, essential oils, and candle making, will also be included at the event.

“All of the instructors for these classes are experienced beekeepers who have helped many beginners develop the skills they need to keep bees successfully,” the press release states.

The event will offer information for beekeepers at various stages, including programs specifically created to benefit those new to the industry.

Register today at http://www.aces.edu/go/888. The price for pre-registration is $35. Pre-registration will be available until Jan. 19 and includes lunch at the event. If registration is not completed by Jan. 19, it will be available at the door for $50 and does not include lunch.
