National 4-H Conference Delegates Brief Agriculture Committee Members on the Importance of Agriculture in the U.S.

The House Agriculture Committee’s Subcommittee on Biotechnology, Horticulture, and Research held a briefing for members featuring National 4-H Conference Delegates. Thirteen young leaders attending the National 4-H Conference in Washington, D.C. delivered a presentation called “The Importance of Agriculture in the United States.”

“It is an exciting time in agriculture. New technology is constantly on the rise, our population continues to grow, and youth groups are becoming more and more involved with the future of the agricultural industry. The Agriculture Committee has been blessed to hear from National 4-H Conference Delegates for the past few years, and it is a pleasure to hear directly from our future leaders what they hope to see in agriculture today and in the years to come. Right now, as a committee, we are working on crafting the next farm bill. This legislation will directly affect these delegates we heard from today, specifically when it comes to funding for research and land-grant universities. I encourage all of them to remain active agricultural leaders in their schools and communities,” said Biotechnology, Horticulture, and Research Subcommittee Chairman Rodney Davis.

“Agriculture and youth organizations like 4-H are key to developing leaders in our rural and urban communities. It is exciting for the Agriculture Committee to hear about their passion for addressing some of the challenges the agricultural industry is facing, and I find it very important to highlight the contributions youth around the country are making to this great industry,” said Agriculture Committee Chairman K. Michael Conaway.
