With the Junior Cattlemen’s Roundup coming up soon, Southeast AgNet sat down with Bailey Watson of the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association (ACA) to tell us more.
“So next week will be our Alabama Junior Cattlemen’s Association 20th annual roundup, which will take place in Montgomery July 23rd through the 26th. We’re super excited,” said Watson.
“We’ll be welcoming about 104 kids to the grounds. We have about 140 head of cattle registered, so we’re super excited about those numbers. We have a big week and weekend planned,” she added.
Watson also said, “Everything from a roundup tailgate to 12 educational contests that our youth will get to participate in, our youth ages 9 to 21 that they will get to participate in. And then we also will have an educational speaker on Friday. So, our educational speaker on Friday will be Miss Heather Welper from Texas.”
“She will be giving an educational speech on You Can’t Buy Showmanship. So, this is something that our participants are required to go to, but we do open up everybody to the general public who’s around and would like to come listen to her speak and is welcome to attend as well. That will be at the Teague on Friday at 3 30 p.m. Then on Saturday and Sunday we will have our cattle shows,” said Watson.
“So on Saturday we will be doing showmanship, our bull classes and our market show. And then on Sunday we will have our heifer show. So that will be streamed live on Saturday and Sunday. But again, if you’re in the area, I would highly encourage you to come out and support our Alabama youth involved in the beef industry,” Watson mentioned.
