It is with a heavy heart we report that Patrick Smith, beloved by so many as the author of several novels about Florida, has passed. Smith is legendary in Florida agricultural circles for his acclaimed book, “A Land Remembered”. In its entertaining novel format, it tells the story of Florida’s true history that the vast majority of residents and visitors to the Sunshine State have never known. Like so many others he touched on his life’s journey, I will personally always cherish the memorable moments I spent with Patrick Smith. Years ago, soon after “A Land Remembered” was published, I had the honor of working with him on a few promotional events, and interviewing him for some network radio programs from time to time. Just last week, Patrick’s video “A Sense of Place” wowed a group of farmers from Wisconsin as they toured ranches, farms and dairies in south Florida. An endless promoter of “A Land Remembered” since I met Patrick, I was proud to see that all on the bus got a copy of the book to take back home to Wisconsin. I hope you will take a moment to read more about this Great Floridian, who will live on forever through his books for all who enjoy them. This article includes a lot of facts about Patrick and his legacy, although I’m not entirely sure if he had actually turned 87 or not at the time of his passing, as this article suggests. AgNet’s thoughts and prayers are with the family. Patrick Smith will truly be remembered for all he has done for Florida, and the joy he has brought to so many of his readers.
