U.S. peanut crop now is perking along good with some good rains helping the farmers.
They rated the crop this week one percent very poor, six percent poor, 33 fair, 53 good, and seven excellent. That’s nationwide. In Georgia there, 88 percent of their crop is pegging.
The five-year average is 86. Soil moisture has been returning to good, 39 percent adequate, a lot of surpluses in certain areas, and 42 percent short in some on the east Georgia side. Alabama said this week they are 74 percent pegging, 70 is the five-year average.
Their condition six percent poor, 23 fair, 62 good, and nine percent excellent. Good rains throughout the week they report. Older crops look pretty good trying to catch up with the fungicides and get along, get protection for white mold.
They said younger crops have struggled due to the rain. Getting the crop started and established has been slow. We certainly have had two separate plantings, and that means two different harvests during the finish of the year.
Florida now is 93 percent pegging. Their average is 88, and they are looking forward to some heavy rain during this week and keep the crop moving. That’s an update on the nationwide tri-state peanut crop.
