At the USA Peanut Congress, there was an update on the weather and the crop as we’re now producing peanuts across the tri-state area.

Reporting from Georgia, he said it was abnormally dry. Dr. Scott Mumford said from January all the way through May. But during May, about one-third of the crop was planted and then it rained and they had to quit planting. A large portion of the acres were planted from May 25th to June 5th. We’re 90% planted now and this late planting could cause some problems at harvest time.

Alabama has said the rains came during Memorial Day weekend, brought some much-needed moisture throughout their state. However, it stopped planting for nearly 10 days due to that same rain. We still have 40% of this crop left to plant and he said a lot of it may not get planted at all, but they’re about 75% complete in Alabama.

Florida, a few replant situations going on now, but stands are overall good, getting dry again. East Florida planted peanut area was even drier. May rains created some replant situations across the state. Seed quality has been pretty good mostly and stands still look good at this point.
