The Georgia Peanut Tour, coordinated by the Georgia Peanut Commission, University of Georgia Extension peanut team and the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service, focused on Southwest Georgia during its visit through Southwest Georgia on Sept. 12-14.
Participants came from many states and foreign countries to familiarize themselves with peanut production. During one stop on the tour, Southeast AgNet visited with Neal Flanagan, CEO of American Peanut Growers Group, to discuss the importance of the tour.
Formed in 2002, American Peanut Growers Group, LLC sits in Donalsonville, Georgia with an expansive, 250-acre campus; 160 producer-shareholders grow 98,000 acres of peanuts annually, delivering to 13 different buying points across South Georgia. The premier facility boasts a 30-million-pound capacity cold storage and a new ready-to-eat processing facility.
