Registration is underway for the 23rd annual Southern Peanut Growers Conference scheduled for July 21-23 at the Edgewater Beach Resort in Panama City Beach, Florida.
The three-day event provides farmers from Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Mississippi a chance to obtain timely information about peanut production, legislative issues, marketing and promotions.
Don Koehler, executive director of the Georgia Peanut Commission, discusses the importance of this conference held every summer.
“We’ve got a really great and relevant conference that we’re scheduling right now. There’s issues like carbon sequestration, trading carbon credits and an update from Washington. We’re in the throes of hearing for the farm bill right now. We’ll have Congressmen G.T. Thompson, ranking member of the House Ag Committee, there to give a report,” Koehler said.
This will also be the last time that the conference will be held at Edgewater Beach Resort. Future sites will depend on the advice and information provided by those attending this year’s event.
“We’re certainly going to keep this conference going after that. We’ll actually ask our participants this year about alternative locations and try to gauge where the best opportunities are. That’ll be a part of what we do,” Koehler said.
