The Florida Cattle Enhancement Board Provides resources to researchers for applied research within the cattle industry. We sat down with Dr. Jose Dubeux, Professor of Forages at the University of Florida, North Florida Research and Education Center in Marianna to learn more.
“All of those things that we talked today, Dale, would not be possible without the support of the Cattle Enhancement Board, because these things take time and labor and supplies and labs and a lot of costs that we could not afford to do without the support. And it’s some of this more applied research also that is very specific to Florida, for example, limpo grass, I think is one of the few places in the country that have limpo grass. I mean, it’s really hard to know to get support from like federal agents and agencies and other type of grants that they don’t want things that are so applied. They want something more general that applies to other regions and other things,” said Dubeux.
“And so I would say that is very important for us to have this support from the Cattle Enhancement Board. I hope it continues over the years, because all this research that’s been done, not only my program, but all the programs that have been funded, have been done a lot of great things with this support. And again, we have all the facilities, we have the researchers, the people we are here to do that type of work. And if just a little money, you can make things work and use better the system. And we’re here as a land grant, we’re here to help to support the farmers and ranchers. But we do need that support so that we can do things here and do our job better,” said Dubeux.
