Cathy Isom has a few different ways of celebrating a popular ingredient, snack, and superfood. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.
Today is a day Peanut Lovers Unite for National Peanut Day, which is celebrated annually on September 13th. Peanuts, which actually aren’t nuts at all, they’re legumes. Simply dry fruits in the same family as peas and beans. No matter what, they are well loved as a healthy snack, in baked goods, and by the bagful at the ball park.
Aside from all of the vitamins and minerals packed in these tasty little guys, numerous studies have shown that peanuts are also known to promote good heart health. But be careful if you’re keeping a tab on your figure because 1 cup of peanuts is approximately 828 calories.
Celebrate National Peanut Day by baking some peanut butter cookies, making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or just having a handful while watching the ball game.
