Livestock producers have been watching the progress of corn going into the ground this spring, and after the slow start, USDA’s latest report shows planting progress has really picked up. Eighty-six-percent of projected corn acres were planted as of May 26th, considerably more than the 28-percent planted two weeks before. The five-year average for this time of the year is 90-percent, so its’ now running only four percentage points behind the average.

Corn emergence is at 54-percent of the total corn acres in the top 18 corn-producing states, compared to the five-year average of 67-percent, which is also considerable progress compared to the week before.
