While Congress is working on a continuing resolution to give the various agencies a little flexibility to address spending priorities, meat inspector furloughs are still likely. According to USDA spokesperson Courtney Rowe, more than 92-hundred meat inspectors will still be forced to take 11 unpaid days starting in July and spread out through the end of the fiscal year. Personnel makes up 87-percent of the Food Safety and Inspection Service 53-million dollar budget, which she said would not be offset by new flexibility.
