Okeechobee bio-fuels meeting

A crowd of more than 250, mostly area farmers and ranchers, gathered in a large barn on a feedstocks farm near Lake Okeechobee Monday to hear from USDA officials and a representative of the U S military about feedstocks crops that can produce biofuels. It was another in a series of meetings that have been taking place throughout Florida for several months now. This was the largest turnout yet of farmers and ranchers hoping to learn more about these new crops. It’s clear there is growing interest in biofuels and feedstocks crops among producers, but so far there are lots more questions than answers. It appears the information flow about details of all of this, to grass roots producers anyway, needs to improve and become more frequent if they are to become more comfortable about the idea of diversifying into this emerging agricultural niche.
