NRCS Awards Wetland Mitigation Projects

The Natural Resources Conservation Service held their first wetland mitigation banking project back in 1916, but since then NRCS has awarded 41 projects supporting the creation and expansion of wetland mitigation banks in 14 states.

The awardees can request up to one million dollars for a project. Projects may last up to four years. When the mitigation bank is established, the landowner retains ownership and the use of the property while a conservation easement protects the wetlands from incompatible degrading activities.

For over 90 years now NRCS has helped farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners make investments in their operation in local communities to improve the quality of the air, water, soil, and wildlife habitat. NRCS uses the latest science and technology to help keep working lands working, boost agricultural economics, and increase the competitiveness of American agriculture. So, remember NRCS provides one-on-one technical advice and if you need land to be tied up for some time check out the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
