According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture New World Screwworm Rapid Response X account, there are several new updates on NWS. One post gives details on the first confirmed detection of New World Screwworm in U.S. wildlife, after a detection was found in a Texas elk. The post says, “USDA is taking action following the first confirmed detection of New World Screwworm in U.S. wildlife. Early detection is key to protecting American livestock, wildlife, and pets.”
USDA also plans to reopen another border for Mexican cattle imports. The Columbus, New Mexico border crossing opening would be the third under the USDA’s phased livestock trade restoration plan.
