University of Florida Extension Service and Florida A&M are all teaming together to again sponsor the 15th annual Peanut Butter Challenge.
During October and November, all collected peanut butter will be distributed to local food pantries this winter. A total of 38 of Florida’s Extension Service offices will be collecting the protein-packed favorite. Participating county extension offices will collect sealed, unexpired peanut butter in any brand, size, or type of container, from individual cups to the big family size.
The project has gained popularity every year, and schools and organizations conduct friendly competitions to see who can collect the most peanut butter. Last year, the program brought in 44,472 pounds of peanut butter donations, or roughly enough to make 622,000 sandwiches based on two tablespoons per sandwich. The event is also sponsored by and supported by the Peanut Federation and the Florida Peanut Producers Association.
So, donate some peanut butter, pick up a jar at your local store, and take it to the county extension office, and let it be a part of the 15th annual Peanut Butter Challenge.
