With nine months of trade now in the books, we review our list of 48 commodities and how their performance rates since New Year’s. Conflicts in Iraq and Ukraine, of course, have had energy way out in front all year long. As of today, heating oil, gasoline, and crude oil remain numbers one, two, and three on the list.
Heating oil leading the way up 388% since New Year’s. Gasoline went up 236%. Soybean oil is the only ag commodity in the top 10, coming in number seven, up 43%.
Wheat, though, right behind at number 11, up 29%. No surprise, livestock have not fared well in the second half of the year. We’ll look at those numbers as we continue.
This is the bottom-line report. Our list of 48, feeder cattle, barely in the green after nine months, went up 3%. Live cattle have slipped into the red for the year, down one and a half percent.
