The 26 peanut crop estimates has been changed and lowered a little bit, but as of August the 30th, the 63% of the peanut acreage was rated good to excellent condition, one percentage point behind the previous week and eight percentage behind that same time last year. The crop reports that the crop is 6% excellent, 55% good, 29% fair, 9% poor, and 1% very poor, and only about 3% of the crop has been dug so far.
Checking on the estimate for the year, this is for September now, Alabama dropped from 3,200-pound average yield down to 3,100-pound average yield, so they’ll be bringing in less peanuts than was first estimated. Florida’s holding on though, they’ve got 3,800-pound average yield, and they are predicted to be that same in September. Georgia, 4,050 pounds was estimated from last year, 4,150 pounds per acre.
They bumped it up a little bit, now Georgia should make 4,200 pounds on the average yield for the year. So nationwide, the total came down on average. The average yield in August was 3,956 pounds nationwide.
They dropped that to 3,879 pounds. So just a small drop and peanut farmers are moving into the fields now to bring them home.
