A good friend to agriculture has passed.
Former Congressman Charles Hatcher of Albany and Camilla, Georgia, has passed at 87. He graduated from Georgia Southern University and later earned a law degree from the University of Georgia Law School. He developed a thriving law practice in Albany, Georgia for many years, and then he started serving in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1973 to 1980, and then he ran for Congress, and he went on to the U.S. House of Representatives for six terms from 1980 to 1992.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Thursday, September the 10th at the Camilla United Methodist Church in Camilla, Georgia. He was a strong leader for peanuts and agriculture in the Southeast because he had more peanuts in his district than any other congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives, but he had a good run helping to save the peanut program and promote peanuts in Washington. His office always had a bag of peanuts from the Georgia Peanut Commission, but a good career that served a lot to agriculture and especially the peanuts.
