With eight months of trade now in the books, we review our list of 48 commodities today and their performance since New Year’s. Surging energy prices continue to have heating oil, gasoline and crude oil remaining numbers one, two and three on the list, but a strong July and even stronger August certainly helping the grain trade move into positive territory for the year. Soybean oil, in fact, rates number five on the list, up 52% since New Year’s.

Wheat, three-year highs as we start this month, right behind at number six, up 42.5%. Cotton made the top 10 at number 10, up 26%. Soybeans are now up 18% on the year, corn up nine. This is the bottom-line report.
