Well, what happened to Farm Bill Number 2, 2.0 as it’s referred to? It’s the Agricultural Act of 2026, but the Senate Ag Committee adjourned for a break and did not pass it.
The vote was 10 to 11, and the committee failed in getting that approved. Senator John Boozman of Arkansas, the chairman of the committee, said, “I’m deeply disappointed by the outcome. We have the responsibility to stand for America’s farmers, ranchers, and rural communities. Everyone recognizes the serious challenges that they continue to face, and blocking the Farm Bill only adds to the uncertainty and hardship.”
We found out a few details about the vote. Senator Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky, was absent, and Senator Tommy Tuberville, Republican from Alabama, missed the final vote.
He had been there earlier, but at the time of the vote, he hadn’t left the room. Georgia Democrat Raphael Warnock voted against the bill, saying the bill did not go far enough to mitigate cuts in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or better known as SNAP. So, it was delayed.
We’ll wait until September 7th to start back negotiating in the Senate Ag Committee, and maybe we’ll hear a positive vote for Farm Bill 2.0.
