Peanut farmers know that about 30 percent of their crop on certain years are exported to other countries.
Well, who’s buying up the peanuts and is our favorite customers? Right now, the number one buyer has been Mexico at 148,000 metric tons this year and the following that was Canada. Following recent changes China has moved up to number one needing some peanuts to make peanut oil. So, China has moved to number one with 149,000 metric tons.
Mexico number two at 148,000. Canada’s number three at 113,000. Then followed by the Netherlands which is was at 30,000 to 40,000 metric tons but they’re down about 30 percent this year for some unknown reason.
Japan is next. That’s followed by Spain as a top buyer then the United Kingdom then Trinidad Tobago and Germany and South Korea. But this year so far with the first 11 months they’re showing exports of U.S. peanuts are up 10.4 percent.
Last year they have had were down about 20 percent 19.5 and this year they’re up about 10. So good news more promotion is needed in the countries and hoping that they can increase that exports this year with a good crop.
