The Georgia Cotton Commission (GCC) and Georgia Peanut Commission remind growers, industry leaders and the general public that the Cotton and Peanut Research Field Day is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 2 at the University of Georgia Tifton Campus in Tifton, Georgia.
The GCC, GPC and University of Georgia Extension Cotton and Peanut Teams will co-sponsor the joint research field day, beginning at 8 a.m. at the UGA Lang Farm, located at 230 Rigdon Aultman Road, Tifton, Georgia.
Scott Monfort, University of Georgia (UGA) Extension peanut agronomist, talked about the field day.
“We do have the Cotton and Peanut Research Field Day. It’s sponsored by the Georgia Cotton Commission and the Georgia Peanut Commission. It is our public demonstration of what our research is. In other words, the people that are getting the grower dollars to do research, they’re kind of going through some of the things and talking about what their projects are so that the general public can come in and see them,” Monfort said.
Field Day Specifics
Field day attendees will visit the UGA Lang Farm to tour several research trials and hear from research specialists. Attendees will return to the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center for lunch and a short program. The field day is a free event, but attendees are encouraged to RSVP to Mallory Marchant at mallory.marchant@uga.edu or by calling 229-386-3366 to provide an accurate count for lunch.
The purpose of the tour is to showcase current research, which is funded by the respective commissions, in plot-side presentations by the researchers. The sponsors’ goal is to provide an educational environment for cotton and peanut farmers and give them the opportunity to pose questions directly to the researchers and to express opinions and concerns pertinent to the production of their crops.
