The Georgia Peanut Commission reminds growers and industry specialists that the deadline to register for this year’s Georgia Peanut Tour is Friday, July 31.
This year’s peanut tour will be held on Sept. 22-24 in Savannah, Georgia and the surrounding areas. Every year the tour focuses on the latest information pertaining to peanuts while providing tour attendees a first-hand view of industry infrastructure from production and handling to processing and utilization. It will include on-farm harvest demonstrations, a research stop at the University of Georgia Southeast Research and Education Center in Midville, Georgia, the Georgia Ports Authority and MANA Nutrition.
Tour stops will be made in multiple peanut-producing counties throughout South Georgia.
David West, GPC Project Coordinator-Research and Education, talked about this year’s tour.
“Our Georgia Peanut Tour this year, the 38th one will be held on September 22-24. This year we’re based out of Savannah, and we’ll be touring our stops in the peanut industry, the ports and other things there in the Savannah area, stretching out into the area around Midville for our farm tours,” West said. “Registration can be found at our website, which is georgiapeanuttour.com.
“We certainly do encourage everybody in the peanut industry to come out and take part in the tour this year. We’ve got a lot of good stops lined up and a lot of great information to our peanut growers and those in the industry.”

The tour will start with a Hot Topics Seminar on Sept. 22 at 2:30 p.m. at The Clyde Venue in Savannah. The seminar topics will focus on an update on this year’s crop, including production challenges, irrigation and fertilizer.
