The American Peanut Research and Education Society has elected new officers for the coming year.
They have just completed their convention in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The new officers include Dr. Greg McDonald. He is with the University of Florida.
The president-elect is Shelly Nutt. She is with the Texas Peanut Producers Board. And the last president last year, the immediate past president, is Dr. Maria Bellotta.
She is with Virginia Tech University. The awards given this year included the Bailey Award given to a group from the University of Georgia. They were on photosynthesis, quantum efficiency of wild derived and cultivated peanuts.
That was the award-winning program presented the Bailey Award. The Corteva Agri-Science Award for Excellence in Research was given to Dr. Maria Bellotta of Virginia Tech. The Corteva Agri-Science Award for Excellence in Education went to Dr. Krista Palon of the University of Georgia.
The Coyote-Wilson Award for Distinguished Service was given to Dr. Rebecca Bennett of USDA-ARS from Oklahoma. So, the international program at San Juan, Puerto Rico was a big success. The Peanut Association and the National Peanut Board were the sponsors.
They had several competing in various categories, and they were given their awards for master’s thesis and PhDs.
