Farming is a Circus! That was the theme this week at the Southern Peanut Growers Conference in Panama City Beach. With all that growers have to deal with to produce a crop and remain sustainable, the peanut business can be a circus of challenges at times.
The Southern Peanut Growers Conference, which started on Tuesday and was slated to end at lunch on Thursday, addressed multiple issues impacting the Southeast region’s peanut industry. This included sessions on mental health, weather impacts, research and legislation. That made the three-day conference in Panama City Beach important for growers from Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and South Carolina, says Taylor Arnold, executive director of the Georgia Peanut Commission.
The conference comprises producers from the Alabama Peanut Producers Association, Florida Peanut Producers Association, Georgia Peanut Commission, Mississippi Peanut Growers Association and South Carolina Peanut Board.
