The Senate Ag Committee is expected to soon consider the second part of the Farm Bill.
Earlier, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act passed several parts of the peanut program and others to provide protection right now on pricing, but now they’re going to do some special amendments in the 2.0. One is to update the marketing assistance loan to ensure that the program remains fully operational during any future lapsing when the federal government shuts down. That was really a problem this past year. Also, increase funding for market access program.
That’s the market assistance program that promotes peanuts abroad. The third area was reserve 50 percent of the food for peace resources for U.S. grown commodities. Another one is to create new high-priority research and extension priority for peanut aflatoxin.
Let’s solve that problem. Also, to expand farm ownership and operating loans. Also, we’re asking to require that the school food authorities make purchase of at least 95 percent of domestic products and commodities in each category as they plan the school year.
But that’s just a few of the items that’s being requested in the Farm Bill 2.0, which hopes to be approved soon.
