As summer grilling ramps up, Wyatt Doolittle of the Georgia Beef Board (GBB) shares tips on cooking beef.
“Summer’s officially here and if there’s one thing that brings families together this time of year, it’s firing up that grill. Beef is usually right in the middle of it, said Doolittle.
“One thing that we like to remind people is that great grilling starts before the food ever hits the grill. Keep your beef refrigerated until you’re ready to cook. Use separate plates for raw and cooked meat and always wash those hands and utensils after handling raw beef,” added Doolittle.
“Another tip is to let your steaks rest for about five to ten minutes after they come off the grill. It’ll allow all those juices to redistribute throughout the meat instead of just running out onto your plate, giving you a more flavorful and tender steak. Here at the Georgia Beef Board, we’re also always finding fun ways to celebrate grilling season,” said Doolittle.
Doolittle added, “We recently wrapped up our summer grilling giveaway in partnership with the Dairy Alliance. Three lucky Georgians took home a basket filled with grilling essentials, beef-themed items, and dairy products, perfect for summer cookouts. It was a great opportunity to remind consumers that beef and dairy are a natural pair, from a perfectly grilled burger topped with cheese to a steak served alongside a fresh dairy-based side dish.”
“So as everyone enjoys the rest of summer, we encourage folks, fire up that grill, enjoy beef with your family and your friends, and thank the Georgia cattle producers who work every day to provide a safe, wholesome, and nutritious product for our tables,” said Doolittle.
