Commodity Performance Report

Markets are closed Friday for the July 4th holiday, leaving today and tomorrow for grain and livestock traders to get comfortable with their positions ahead of the three-day break. We have six months now in the books, and we take a look at our list of 48 commodities that we track each day and how they’ve performed since New Year’s. No surprise, energy leads the way.

Heating oil, gasoline, and crude oil, one, two, and three on the list. But soybean oil cracks the top 10. Number six, up 44.5% since January.

Wheat, somewhat surprising, has jumped to number 12, up 13% since New Year’s. Right behind numbers 14 and 15, feeder cattle and live cattle, both up anywhere from 8.5 to 9.5%. This is the bottom-line report. Not all 48 commodities, of course, in the green since New Year’s.

Corn and lean hogs in the red. Corn down 11%, lean hogs down 14.5.
