An update on the peanut crop in the Southeast.

In Georgia they’re saying that crop is 33% pegging, 32 is the 5-year average, average condition is 3% very poor, 8 poor, 33 fair, 50 good, and 6% excellent. The industry is waiting for an estimate on planted acres coming up next week. Alabama says they are 1% very poor, 1% poor, 13% fair, 82% good, and 3% excellent.

The pegging’s at 13%, they’re behind Georgia, but they are equal to what they produce in a 5-year average. In Florida they’re saying their crop is 25% pegging, not quite as much as Georgia, but they’re saying that the crop is rated 1% very poor, 8% poor, 25% fair, 65% good, and 1% excellent. All of this is from the Ag Statistics Service, but nationwide the peanut crop is now said to be 2% very poor, 5% poor with some flooding areas, 30% fair, 58% good, and 5% excellent nationwide.

Texas is looking good after getting some rain. They said it was very short out there, but the crop looks great. It’s the best start they said they’ve had in several years as the peanut crop begins to develop.
