Scott Monfort, the peanut specialist in Georgia provided an update and some recommendations for peanut growers.
Monfort said, “The best thing as you can walk outside and see right now is rainfall. We needed that to get this moving in the right direction. We estimate that we’re about a quarter of the acres being planted at this point. And if I had to really put out some firm recommendations for growers at this point is stay the course. You know what you need to do.”
“We know we need to choose the right variety. We’ve got a great amount of varieties to choose from. Let them fit your situation that you’re in, but you need to also make sure that you cover all the pest problems that you might have,” said Monfort.
Whether you’re going in short rotation, make sure you’re developing a plan for your disease management, but also tomato spider wilt using Thiamet and doing everything you can to suppress that problem if possible so that we can get off onto the right foot. Everything right now looks good. We’re planted, like I said, about a quarter in. Those look pretty good right now. We just need to stay the course,” said Monfort.
