Farm Bill 2.0 has passed the U.S. House of Representatives 224 to 200, and this strengthens the operation of the Market Loan Assistance Program that was in that first bill, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that was passed earlier in the year.
The good news in this part of the 2.0 is that the bill includes important provisions related to international and emergency food assistance programs, the longstanding markets of the U.S. peanut products. The allocation of $200 million annually will support emergency food assistance programs for the procurement and also the distribution of ready-to-use therapeutic foods, which will provide meaningful benefit to the entire U.S. peanut industry. Furthermore, transferring the authorities of the Food and Peace Act from the USAID, the Aid of International Development, it will be transferred to the Department of Agriculture, and it will expand opportunities for programs participating in this program.
The bill also reserves 50 percent of the Food for Peace resources for U.S. grown commodities, which will help ensure continued utilization of peanut products in this program. All of that is good news coming in the new Farm Bill 2.0.
