The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) is reacting to the passage of Farm, Food and National Security Act of 2026, also known as Farm Bill 2.0 by House Agriculture Committee.

The bill was authored by Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson of Pennsylvania. Duane Stateler, NPPC President said, “Pork producers of all shapes and sizes need this regulatory relief and are grateful for Chairman Thompson’s steady commitment to providing relief from state laws outside our borders. Now, it is up to the full House of Representatives to finish the job: pass this farm bill and give agricultural producers across the country true freedom to farm.”

According to the NPPC, “the legislation boasts relief for pork producers facing an imminent patchwork of state animal housing laws spurred by California Proposition 12, a state law that puts small farmers on the chopping block, increases the risk of industry consolidation, and undermines states’ rights.” The bill also addresses other agricultural concerns including the Feral Swine Eradication Control Pilot program to full program status, Increasing funding for trade promotion programs, Additional training centers for the Beagle Brigade Act, Requires USDA to report on the impacts of the expiration of USMCA on agriculture, Establishing the Agricultural Trade Enforcement Task Force, Expanding the Animal Health Protection Act, Documentation from USDA on potential Foreign Animal Disease outbreak, Caps Admin expenses for National animal Disease Preparedness Response Program and National Animal Health Laboratory Network, among others.
