Corteva Agriscience Showcases DuraCor® and NovaGraz™ for Improved Pasture Management
Corteva Agriscience is providing cattle producers with effective options to improve pasture conditions and maximize forage utilization. We caught up with Rachel Walker of Corteva Agriscience at NCBA’s CattleCon to discuss practical solutions for forage management and pasture weed control.
Walker emphasized that successful cattle pasture management starts with maximizing what is already growing in the field.
“So many options when you talk about forage management. Obviously we want to maximize what’s under our hoof before we ever have to add other inputs, so making sure that we have things that cattle can eat to add pounds to them is what we’re going for,” Walker said. “So we want to get weeds, especially weeds that aren’t beneficial to them, out so they can be eating good grasses.”
She explained that Corteva’s range and pasture solutions focus on eliminating unwanted weeds and brush to allow productive grasses to thrive.
“When you talk about what Corteva offers in that range, it really is taking out the weeds, taking out the brush, and getting us down to that forage that actually puts pounds on our cows,” she added.
DuraCor®: Broadleaf and Brush Control Without Grazing Restrictions
One of Walker’s top recommendations is DuraCor® herbicide. “I probably have two favorites right now. The first one would be DuraCor®. Short summary on that, unrestricted use because it doesn’t have 2,4-D in it,” she said.
DuraCor® offers broadleaf weed control with no grazing restrictions for beef cattle, giving producers flexibility in their grazing programs. It also provides residual activity for extended weed control. For additional brush management, producers can tank-mix it with Remedy if needed.
“If you’re just talking broadleaves, it does most of the lifting for you by itself,” Walker noted.
NovaGraz™: Flexibility and White Clover Preservation
The second product Walker highlighted is NovaGraz™ herbicide. “Second option would be Nova Graze, which is kind of still new to everybody. We’re just looking at one year registration of it, and that allows us to leave our white clover in our field and take out other broadleaves.”
Unlike DuraCor®, NovaGraz™ does not have residual activity, providing added flexibility in forage management programs. “What’s also cool on it is where something like DuraCor® actually has a residual, NovaGraz™ does not have a residual. So it also gives us some flexibility in our forage management,” she explained.
