We told you earlier this week that USDA’s November Cattle on Feed Report shows the number of cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the U.S. was 11.7 million head on November 1, 2022, two percent below November 1, 2021. As the numbers continue to drop, some are wondering how long the current decline in beef cattle numbers will continue. Gary Crawford has more details.
But the new USDA report noted placements in feedlots during October totaled 2.11 million head, 6 percent below 2021. And that was the lowest placement number for October since the series began in 1996.
