The Beef and Pork Checkoff programs are national marketing and research programs designed to increase the demand for beef and pork products not only here in the U.S., but also abroad. One of the contractors to each of the checkoff programs is the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF). And USMEF President and CEO Dan Halstrom recently told Southeast AgNet those dollars are extremely important for the work they do overseas.
When it comes to checkoff dollars, the USMEF website notes 27% of their funding comes from the Beef Checkoff, 13% from the Pork Checkoff, 7% from the Soybean Checkoff, and 6% from the Corn Checkoff.
More about this and other information concerning U.S. meat exports can be found on the USMEF website.
