The Georgia Peanut Commission is accepting nominations for the Outstanding Georgia Young Peanut Farmer Award, which will be presented at the Georgia Peanut Farm Show in January, 2021 in Tifton, Georgia.

Nominations will be accepted until Dec. 1. The Georgia Peanut Commission sponsors this award in conjunction with BASF.

Who is Eligible?

The award is open to any active peanut farmer not over the age of 45 as of Jan. 21. Multiple entries from the same county can be submitted. An awards committee will review applications and select one winner, according to Joy Crosby, director of communications at the Georgia Peanut Commission.

Joy Crosby

“This award recognizes our future Young Farmer leaders. On the application, it looks at their overall farm operation; some of their environmental and stewardship practices; as well as their leadership in the community, whether it’s civic duties, church or community service activities,” Crosby said.

“We do have a lot of well-rounded farmers that are really involved and active on their farm and their local communities. We wanted a way to recognize them and show our appreciation for how they’re making a difference in their local communities but also in agriculture in general.”

Award Announcement

The winner will be announced on Jan. 21 at the Georgia Peanut Farm Show, which will be held over two days at the University of Georgia Tifton Campus Conference Center.

The winner will receive a sign to display at their farm and their registration/hotel stay will be paid for at the 2021 Southern Peanut Growers Conference in Panama City Beach, Fla.
