Georgia cotton growers and peanut producers who were not able to watch the virtual field day on Sept. 9 can view the video presentations on both the Georgia Cotton Commission website and the Georgia Peanut Commission website.
The field day was held in collaboration by the Georgia Cotton Commission, Georgia Peanut Commission and University of Georgia (UGA) Extension.
Specialists from the UGA Cotton and Peanut teams discussed the latest research pertaining to both commodities that each commission is helping to fund.
Such topics include cotton physiology, cotton breeding and genomics, irrigation management, cotton and peanut pest management, silverleaf whitefly management in cotton, soil and nutrient management, cotton and peanut weed management and market outlooks for both commodities.
According to the UGA Farm Gate Value Report, cotton generated $792.7 million in farm gate value in 2018, while peanuts generated $624.5 million in farm gate value. The two commodities accounted for 63.5% of Georgia’s farm gate value for row crop production in 2018.
