Record High Aug. 1 Cattle Feedlot Inventory

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s latest Cattle on Feed Report shows the number of cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head was 11.1 million head on Aug. 1, 2019. The inventory was slightly above Aug. 1, 2018. According to a story from Gary Crawford, beef production during the upcoming winter quarter may not be as high as some had predicted.

The report also shows marketing’s of fed cattle during July totaled 2 million head, 7 percent above 2018.
