Cheese curds are a delicious comfort food loved by kids and adults. They are unique, funky, snackable little pieces of yellow or white Wisconsin cheddar cheese coated and deep-fried golden brown for a warm buttery crunch on the outside and an ooey-gooey burst of dairyland delicacy on the inside.
Cheese curds are the moist pieces of curdled milk either eaten alone as a snack, or used for other things. They have a mild and cheddar-like flavor. And, like cheddar, the color can be white, yellow or orange. The slightly rubbery texture causes the cheese curd to squeak when you bit into it. For this reason, cheese curds are also called “squeaky cheese.”
A one-ounce serving of plain cheese curds is about 110 calories. Of course add more if breaded and deep fried.
