The mid-year outlook has been released. Everett Griner takes a look at the beef, pork, and poultry production outlook for 2019. He also discusses the outlook for meat prices in today’s Agri View.
Meat Production Outlook for 2019
According to the mid-year outlook on production, we don’t have much to worry about when it comes to meat. Well, not in 2019. These things could change. Right now, here is a brief summary of what is ahead.
Beef production will rise. If only by heavier slaughter and carcass weight.
Pork production will rise based mostly on growth and farrowing, and, increases in pig litters.
This is a maybe, but there should be no decline in poultry production based on current market prices, and conditions. Even turkey production is expected to rise as the price level slowly goes up.
You can see it is based mostly on price, and markets. What the analysis didn’t figure was, when the bulk prices rise, most consumers buy less. That is a normal reaction.
It doesn’t look that way right now. Overall, 2019 looks pretty good, at both levels.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
