Everett Griner talks about the demand of fruits and vegetables from roadside markets in today’s Agri View. Everett discusses why this demand has grown. And why consumers are buying from the roadside market.
Roadside Markets and Eating Healthier
The expansion of roadside markets may have peaked for now. It has made one impressionable fact for those that keep up with statistics. It has increased the demand for fruits and vegetables. Looking at growth from 2,700 such markets in 1998 to over 8,000 in 2017.
Here is the important factor. Consumers are seeing a much greater variety of fruits and vegetables. Thus, a much larger volume of these foods are now being consumed. This is shown by increased sales of both. Especially fruits. The average spending by those who shop these markets is growing right along with their other purchases.
The end result is, they are buying healthier foods. As more markets appear, so will the sale of these healthier foods. Good.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
