Cathy Isom fills us in about why today is a great day for celebrating an oven-baked flatbread that Americans eat by the BILLIONS every year. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.
Celebrating National Pizza Day
In case you’re still trying to figure out what’s for dinner tonight, allow me to offer this suggestion. Today is National Pizza day, celebrated every year on February 9th.
3 Billion pizzas are sold in the United States every year. Add another 1 billion on frozen pizzas. It’s no surprise that 17% percent of restaurants in America are pizzerias.
On average, Americans consume 23 pounds of pizza per person every years. Pepperoni is still the #1 favorite topping, and, we eat approximately 250-MILLION pounds of pepperoni every year. Pineapple is the least favorite topping, only about 10 percent want it. Kids between the ages of 3 and 11 prefer pizza over all food groups for lunch and dinner.
On National Pizza Day, you will find many restaurants offering up special deals.
