recycleCathy Isom continues her series on what to do with that Christmas tree by giving you some of the many ways you can recycle your Christmas tree rather than tossing it to the curb. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.

Beneficial Ways to Recycle the Christmas Tree

Christmas trees can keep on giving well after the holidays. Instead of throwing them curbside to be picked up with the trash, think about how you might be able to recycle and reuse them around the house.

In your garden, for example. Use the branches to mulch perennials. Or start a new compost pile.

Got a pond or a lake on your property? Consider dumping it there. That old pine or spruce will provide a natural and decomposing habitat for fish and will attract algae for them to eat.

Other ways to recycle and reuse, firewood. Or, use a bandsaw or hacksaw to cut your Christmas tree trunk into do it yourself coasters. Just be sure to sand down the surface, stain and seal to prevent any sap from leaking.

Have a fake tree you don’t want anymore.. don’t toss it… donate it. You’d be surprised how many years that tree will have and make someone else very happy.
