Agri View: Drought and Farming

Dan Agri View, Drought

farmingEverett Griner talks about drought and farming in the United States in today’s Agri View.

Now, everybody knows what a drought is. It is something that affects everybody. Not just farmers. But, farmers are among the highest risk element of our entire population.

You see, some areas of our country are more prone to drought than others. High-risk regions generally droughtsuffer a drought about every 3 to 4 years. Generally speaking, most Americans will experience a drought about every 6 to 7 years. Now, since they suffer most, farmers have more ways to protect themselves. They can, and most do, insure their crops. They can make crop choices. And, they can practice good soil policies.

On the other hand, flooding, and crop protection are costly to farmers. Be assured, every drought eventually comes to an end. And you know what? Floods are more destructive than drought.

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
