The 2017 Alabama Agribusiness Council Annual Meeting is taking place in Orange Beach, Alabama through Tuesday. One of the guest speakers was Alabama Agriculture Commissioner John McMillan. He talked about a variety of issues affecting agriculture in the state, including the Disaster Declaration the state is currently seeking for South Alabama counties. This is due to the recent flooding and other weather-related problems growers are facing right now.
McMillan asked that farmers be patient as the secretarial designation process moves along.
Also during the meeting, Alabama Agribusiness Council Executive Director Leigha Cauthen said the council has a record crowd for this year’s event at its new location, the Perdido Beach Resort. Plus, Tricia Roberts with the Alabama Turfgrass Association handed the president’s gavel over to Jason Davis with Alabama Power Company, who will lead the council over the next year. And the council presented its Heritage Award to Cecil Medders, who is a charter member and a past president of the Alabama Agribusiness Council.
