Everett Griner talks about how California is dealing with, and controlling HLB in citrus in today’s Agri View.
California citrus growers are nervous about the disease that has plagued Florida citrus farmers for decade now. It has a name that stretches across the page but I simply call it HLB.
If you have a large grove or a single tree, you don’t want this HLB in it. This California outbreak is not as much a threat as it is in Florida.
Don’t take it to being taken lightly. My report stated that the problem has been found in non-commercial trees in the Los Angeles basin. But that does not mean the problem is not being ignored.
Two areas have been placed under quarantine in order to help keep it under control. California’s method of control is to cut and burn any tree found with the disease.
That to me sounds like the best way to deal with it.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner.
