Agri View: China and Beef Exports

beef exports china

Everett Griner talks about beef exports to China possibly beginning soon in today’s Agri View.

Most people know that China is one of America’s best export customers. China buys a lot of farm goods. Cotton, corn, tree nuts just to name a few. But most people don’t know is China does not import U.S. beef. They have not bought any since 2003. They stopped when that first problem with mad cow disease was discovered. Well back then little was known about the disease. So China stopped all U.S. beef imports. Well, that could change. They are not ready yet but they gave indications they may be willing to negotiate. Why is this important? China consumes over 12 percent of all the beef in the world. With a newfound family financial growth they will increase their beef consumption by at least one-third. So U.S. cattle farmers would love to see U.S. negotiations with China. Why not?

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner.
