Everett Griner talks about work on the new Farm Bill starting soon in today’s Agri View.
You can’t separate farming and politics. Reason is simple. Farmers are too dependent on government programs. If we had no farm support programs it would put all of agriculture where it was back in the early part of the 1900’s. You know back then farmers did everything they could to discourage their children from becoming farmers. And with net farm income for farmers in a steady decline since 2013, some farmers are cautioning their young family members right now about a future in agriculture. But while the current financial level is a big issue members of Congress are preparing to begin work in 2017 on the next Farm Bill. It is due in 3 years. It will take 3 years to come up with a bill that will offer encouragement to farmers. Ummm.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner
