We learned this week that the Obama administration is no longer pressing for passage of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement during the lame duck session. Both Republican and Democratic leaders in Congress told the White House they would not advance the trade deal in the election’s aftermath. But that doesn’t mean the deal is dead, as some feel it could still happen once the new administration takes over. Thad Lively, senior vice-president for trade access with the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF), says they are for TPP.
